Art and Photography

 

Overview

Key Stage 3

Year 7

Throughout year 7 students will explore different art and design techniques. They will develop skills in a range of fine art mediums and explore the concepts of drawing and colour theory. Students will produce work under the following  possible themes: The dot, Jungle and natural forms. Students will learn basic art skills and techniques and develop their understanding of colour. Work studied will include elements of art history as well as the development of artistic skills.

Year 8

Throughout year 8 students will build on the art skills and techniques learnt in year 7. They will develop their confidence in using materials and techniques. Students will explore a range of Fine Art and 3D techniques within the following possible themes: Portraits and World Culture. Work studied will include elements of art history as well as the development of a wide variety of skills. Students will work towards producing final outcomes based on their project themes and skills practiced.

Year 9

Year 9 is an important year as it prepares students for the option of taking GCSE Art or Photography. Students will develop the skills learnt in year 7 and 8 to a much higher level. Students will start to develop independence as they work on a range of Fine Art, Photography and 3D projects. Through looking at a range of artists work students will gain an understanding of different techniques and genres within Art & Design. Students will also study a pre GCSE scheme which will give them the skills and creativity to thrive at GCSE.


Key Stage 4

Year 10

Autumn 1 (Sept- Oct): Introduction to coursework project 1: Students will work under a theme / topic which is selected by the class teacher. Contextual references which allow students to explore a wide variety of artists, photographers and craftspeople through experimentation and development of ideas exploring different cultures.

Autumn 2 (Nov-Dec): Students will refine ideas through experimentation of a wide variety of materials media and techniques which show a developing understanding of how to create original artwork.

Spring 1 (Jan- Feb): All work will be recorded and presented in a professional portfolio which demonstrates how the project has evolved towards a final outcome.

Spring 2 (Mar- Apr): Students will present a final outcome that shows refinement of ideas and realises their intentions that make clear links to their starting point.

Summer 1 (May-June): Introduction to coursework project 2: Students will work under a theme or topic which they can choose based on a small selection offered by the class teacher. Contextual References which allow students to explore a wide variety of artists, photographers and craftspeople through experimentation and development of ideas exploring different cultures.

Summer 2: Students will refine ideas through experimentation of a wide variety of materials media and techniques which show a developing understanding of how to create original artwork.

Year 11

EXAM (10 hours): Students will present a final outcome that shows refinement of ideas and realises intentions that make clear links to their starting point.
