Welcome to the SEN Department

Park Hall Academy has a thriving SEN department that is fully committed to all students achieving their potential and having access to the support and enrichment which allows them to do this. We are able to offer a range of programmes to assist a variety of learning needs across all of the key stages. Assistance will vary depending on individual needs and can range from support during normal curriculum time to small group work and one to one support.

We encourage parental involvement in monitoring and supporting their child. The school makes full use of the local authority support with regular liaison with Solihull Inclusion Support Service.

All students are encouraged to follow a broad and balanced curriculum. The interventions and support offered to specific students is varied. These include:

  • SULP (Social use of Language) group work to aid social interaction and literacy
  • Booster literacy sessions
  • Social skills group work that includes interactive activities
  • Booster numeracy sessions
  • Dyspraxia group workshop
  • Reading sessions
  • Support for EAL students
  • The Concept Fan to work on encouraging positive behaviour
  • Multi-agency monitoring and review

Personalised learning is an integral part of Park Hall. It involves the tailoring of the curriculum and teaching methods to meet the needs of individual students.

Students arriving with a Statement of Special Educational Needs will continue to have their provision met through Local Authority funding and specialist support.

Students requiring placement on the school’s SEN register for health, learning or behavioural needs will be determined through the in-house referral system.

The support given to students through the SEN department is paramount to individual students overcoming barriers to learning and achieving their full potential. Every effort is made to ensure the quality, delivery and monitoring of these interventions is outstanding.

If any parent/carer or student wishes to find out more, please feel free to arrange a visit where either myself or a member of the team will assist you.

Mr. S. Gregory

Individual Learning Leader and SENCO.
