A Level Dance (Level 3)
Course Description
For A/S Dance you will study the dancer as a performer, the process and craft of choreography and the significance of dances. You will create a solo choreography and perform in a duet/trio.
If you then decide to continue onto the A Level Dance qualification you will study a chosen area within ballet and modern dance and a set work in depth. You will also create a group dance and perform a solo. Throughout the A/S and A level Dance course you will take part in workshops with visiting artists and see live performances of current dance repertoire in theatres in Birmingham and local areas.
Each week A/S and A Level dance students will receive weekly dance technique classes as part of the enrichment programme, which will also be supported through the new scholarship programme starting September 2010 in The Performing Arts Department This is a lively and exci ting course which aims to develop your knowledge, skills and personal expression through dance.

- This course and specification is designed to meet the needs of students who wish to study dance in depth. On this course, you will gain experience of choreography and performance and you will be encouraged to think critically about dance. The course promotes progression in depth and complexity of study through AS and A level examinations.

Unit 1 Written paper: Understanding Dance
40% of total AS mark
20% of total A level mark
Unit 2 Practical Coursework: Choreography and Performance
60% of total AS mark

Unit 3 Written Paper: Appreciation – Context and Content
50% of total A2 mark
25% of total A level mark
Unit 4 Practical Examination: Group Choreography and Solo Performance

Where will I be taught?
Park Hall Academy has fantastic facilities Specialist Dance Studio
for the Performing Arts including; an Academy Theatre, 2 music class rooms, 2 music rehearsal rooms, an ensemble room, recording studio, 2 drama studios which convert into a small theatre space and a luxury dance studio with sprung floor.
Why should I study The A Level Dance course?
It is advised that you should only really opt to take this course if you are passionate about Dance. You will need to be focussed and disciplined and prepared to be challenged. It is an extremely exciting course as it opens doorways to new areas of dance and will springboard you into a world where all things are possible.
With this qualification you could continue your studies in Higher Education with the hope to achieve a BA(Hons) Degree in Dance , audition for Performing Arts jobs, apply for an agency to represent you, seek employment within the Performing Arts, join a TIE dance company and much more…. we will give you all the guidance you need!
