GCSE DANCE:-
Course description:
This GCSE course focuses on the performance,creation and appreciation of dance. They will perform a variety of dance pieces, choreograph their own dances and learn how to observe and write about dance. Students learn about dance as a theatre art form. The course is 70% practical and 30% written. Students will develop life skills and attributes such as decision making, critical and creative thinking, aesthetic sensitivity and the ability to co-operate with others. Students will be given opportunities to apply and develop their ICT capacity through the use of ICT tools to support their learning.
GCSE Dance is an excellent option for male and female students with an interest in physical and creative expression. The course also prepares students for any Performing Arts based course at Sixth Form level.
What topics will I study on The GCSE Dance course?
Over the two year course you will study the following areas:
Safe Dance Practice
Dancer in Action
Dance Appreciation
Dance Performance
Dance Choreography
Dance theory
How will I be assessed?
Coursework (practical) – 60% (Choreograph a solo/duet, Perform a set dance)
Set Study – 20% (Perform on your own in front of an examiner)
Written paper (2hrs) – 20% (Theoretical exam where you will apply your understanding of all 6 topics written above)
Where will I be taught?

In a Specialist Dance Studio
Park Hall Academy has fantastic facilities for the Performing Arts including; 2 music class rooms, 2 music rehearsal rooms, an ensemble room, recording studio, 2 drama studios which convert into a small theatre space and a luxury dance studio with sprung floor.
Why should I study GCSE Dance and where can it take me?
It is advised that you should only really opt to take this course if you are passionate about The Performing Arts. You will need to be focussed and disciplined and prepared to be challenged. It is an extremely exciting course as it opens doorways to new areas of dance and will springboard you into a world where all things are possible.
At the end of the two year course if you have passed all practical and theoretical exams you will have achieved a GCSE in Dance.
With this you could continue your studies at a Level 3 qualification for example on The A Level Dance or BTEC National Award or Diploma course and then on to Higher Education with the hope to achieve a BA(Hons) Dance.
At this point then you could audition for Performing Arts jobs, apply for an agency to represent you, seek employment within the Performing Arts, join a TIE company and much more…. we will give you all the guidance you need!
