PHA Boys Dance Group

The PHA Boys Dance Group meets regularly each week at Park Hall Academy to share their enjoyment of physical dance. At present the group is made up of boys who, in the normal school setting, have different peer groups and cultural backgrounds and yet for 30 minutes every Friday share a common goal and that is to dance.

On the 2nd February 2010 the boys performed to an audience of 350 at Solihull Arts Complex where they wowed on lookers with their daring lifts, awesome jumps and exciting steps. The performance was part of a large scale event called ForceTen, organised by Dancescape of Solihull and involved other boys dance groups from various schools in Solihull.  The boys were very nervous about performing in front of an audience but are beginning to  learn how to delve deep inside themselves to challenge their confidence levels and understand that through non verbal expression they can say a thousand words.

We are all very proud of them!

The Wiz

The Wiz – what brilliant talent was on show and what an entertaining performance everyone gave. The leads, the chorus, the dancers, the band, the back stage and technical crews – they were all stars.

Staff and students at Park Hall Academy worked exceptionally hard over the past few months for their performance of 'The Wiz'. The production which boasted a live jazz band, was made up of a cast of year 7-13 students and demonstrated a high quality of dance, drama and musical talent. It gave the school community a chance to work closely together with a variety of cross curricular links across many departments. Head of performing arts, Emile Cullum-Kenyon said that “this has been a great opportunity for both the staff and students to get involved in a whole school production. It has also helped to boost the profile of the school as a Performing Arts Specialist Academy after a very positive Ofsted report and welcomes the new subject of dance into the curriculum”. The students have had a taste of what a full on production is like and we hope that this will be the start of many more shows at the Academy. “

'The Wiz' is based upon the Wizard of Oz, and the production was set in the 1970's with a groovy disco theme that had its audiences singing and dancing in their seats. With a dancing yellow brick road, tap dancing tin-man and an evil, wicked, soul singing witch it was a show never to be forgotten.
